Hello everyone
Yes I finally left the comfort zone of Utila and trecked across country via 1 boat, 3 buses and 4 taxis to Guatemala.
Let me tell you, it was hard work!!!! 14hrs later from 6am-8pm and we still weren't at our place of interest, but as long as there was a bed, I was happy to lay my weary body for the night and carry on with the journey the next day.
My bed had bed bugs and I was really sick and feavery and fainted in the middle of the night, so much for a good nights rest, travelling takes it toll on the body, but I think I may have had food poisoning as am still not right and its 6 days later. Anyway enough of the boring horrible stuff Ill tell you about the fun and incredible sights that I saw in the following days.
Ok so we bussed it the next day to Antigua, past Guatemala City and a bit further South East. This place has such a lovely feel and even though we didnt manage to arrive before sun set, I instantly had a feeling of contentment and excitiment of being somewhere new and as it being just a town, it was not too crazy or overwhelming. We got up very early the next day and a guide took us to an active volcano! We climbed for 1.5hrs in the cold mist up this amazing landscape, over 1 inactive volcano to reach the other one. There was litrally red hot lava rocks bubbling out of this volcano, spilling down onto path way which we had to occasionally jump out of the way of! much to the amusement of the guides, who though this was hilarious and called it a gringo bbq!!! it was funny and scary and amazing all at once, and we wernt really in much danger. And this did give us such a great opportunity to take some amazing pictures. Ill attach the pics once have sorted through as I took about 100! We even toasted marsh mellows in the heat from the lava, I don't like them but they smelled lovely and sweet.
Next we explored the town with a couple of lovely Belgiuns we met on the volcano, and climbed a forrested hill to a park where we could over look the whole town with the volcano in the back ground. We got attacked or so nearly attacked by dogs on the way up, as we left he path in favor of a short cut and came accross about 5 angry little dogs, no bigger than Jack but 5 times as vicious and they chased us literally half way up this bloomin steep hill, untill we were so out of breath and scrabbling on all fours trying to get away as quick as we could whilst laughing and panting hysterically!! Im laughing just recalling this memory, ooh and one of them nipped french david, oops, thank goodness im such a fast runner! not, i just happened to be at he back of all of us so had a head start of running, and I have had my rabies injections so just as well! The view from the top was worth it, and we stayed for a while making silly phots as if we were jumping in the sky above the city, againIll post the pics soon.
Well gotta go, but will post more tomorrow as lots to write as am back in Mainland Honduras in Copan and have seen Mayan ruins, incredible forrests, and had 3huge macaws on my arm at a beautiful bird park.
Adios amigos!xxxxxxx
