Oh my Goodness! what an incredible day on the Bolivian Salt Flats. Am writing this after such a fantastic day, were eating Amazing Pizza in Uyuni just near the flats, waiting for our 1st train, a night train that will take us to us Tupiza, a 1 horse town surrounded by sandstone, cacti & lots of horses & dust, but this is another story! Its like being in the antarctic, just white everywhere, except for the bright blue sky! I was So so excited about seeing this place as I had seen so many beautiful pictures, that I couldnt wait to take my own. It didnt let us down, at all! It started off being quite touristy and a bit like a bus mans holiday, every stop we made, there was 20 other tour groups, full of gringos all dying to see the same thing and no one beoing abke to take full advantage of the view pionts because everyone was in the way. However, after a Llama lunching on the salt flats, our lovely group explored the Isle of Fishes, bizare name as there were no fishes in sight, just a hungry friendly tame Ostrich and lots & lots of Cacti! a very phallic looking island indeed!!! Then, followed lots of silly pictures with our lovely group, playing with the no perspective landscape, silly, cliche & fun!! had to be done. It´s like being in the antarctic, just white white white everywhere, except for the bright blue sky. Then, the moment I was waiting for, just before sun set, when we drove out to a section of the flats where large pools of water covered the salty ground and the sky & mountains caused these incredibly beautiful reflections in the water, perfect mirroe imagaes and we all went snap happy - hope you enjoy the pics. I am finishing writing this in Argentina! were finally here after a crazy bus trip full of Police checks, contraband & we think drug smuggling and lots of delays, but hey, thats another story as well, one I think told in person! But all is good and were off for a tasty Lebonese lunch and to meet my friend Becky who I will be travelling with for the next 5wks! Age, myself and her will be the 3 musketeers sampling all the great wine of Argentina as we go mmm mmm mmm....

Oh my goodness your photographs are a mix of hilarious and completely beautiful. Jonathan and I were in hysterics looking at the beer can/foot squashing pictures. The reflections on the water are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou both look so well and happy and we love hearing about all your adventures. Pleased to hear there are no random chicken incidents in Bolivia!!
Love
